Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Mongolia at the invitation of the President of Ukhnagin Khuralsukh.

He will participate in the celebrations dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the joint victory of the Soviet and Mongolian armed forces over the Japanese – at the Battle of Khalkhin Gol.

During their meetings, the heads of state will discuss the prospects for the further development of Russian-Mongolian relations, as well as strategic partnerships. They will exchange views on current international and regional issues.

The signing of a number of bilateral documents is also planned.

During his visit to Mongolia, Vladimir Putin will hold talks with the Chairman of the Great State Khural (Mongolian Parliament) Dashzevgiin Amarbayasgalan and with the Prime Minister of Mongolia – Luvsannamsrein Oyun-Erdene.

Putin’s visit to Mongolia caused great interest among the international community.

There have been suggestions that the authorities in Ulaanbaatar should hand over Russian President Vladimir Putin to the International Criminal Court, as Mongolia is a party to the 2002 Rome Statute and should honor its obligations. The spokeswoman of the European Commission Nabila Masraly, quoted by “Ukrainska Pravda”, drew attention to this.

She announced that the EU expressed its concern to Mongolia about the upcoming visit of the Russian president.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized Mongolia today for not arresting Vladimir Putin. This was reported by Reuters, referring to a Telegram post by the department’s spokesman Georgii Tikhii.

According to Tihii, this is how the country dealt a serious blow to the international criminal legal system.

Mongolia’s refusal to detain Putin is “a severe blow to the International Criminal Court and the criminal justice system,” he wrote.

“Mongolia allowed an accused criminal to escape justice, thereby sharing responsibility for war crimes,” added the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman, quoted by BTA.

He said Ukraine will work with its allies to ensure that Mongolia bears the consequences.

Last week, Ukraine called on Ulaanbaatar to arrest Putin during his visit to the country.
