The Cabinet of Ministers decided to terminate another agreement with the CIS in the space industry

The agreement is outdated, has lost its practical significance and does not correspond to the current state of cooperation between the countries.

The government approved the draft decree of the President of Ukraine on the termination of the Agreement on Joint Activities in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, signed on December 30, 1991 in Minsk. Decision is made at a meeting of the Cabinet Wednesday, August 4th.

As stated in the government decree, this agreement is outdated, in modern realities it has lost its practical significance and does not correspond to the current state of cooperation between countries, therefore it is not applied.

As noted in the explanatory note to the project, the agreement was aimed at resolving key issues related to the implementation by the States parties to the agreement of joint activities in the exploration and use of outer space. The basis for joint activities is interstate programs, the development and implementation of which is coordinated by the Interstate Space Council.

As previously reported, the government adopted a decree on Ukraine’s withdrawal from the Provisions on the Interstate Space Council. The decision was made taking into account the loss of its practical significance by the international treaty.
