Ukraine will no longer supply electricity to the European Union in the near future. A wave of Russian missile attacks caused extensive damage to energy infrastructure, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry reported Monday.
In the next period, according to the ministry, Ukraine will have to “stabilize its energy system”.
Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko calls the attacks on the energy grid “the biggest during the war”. He said on television that the entire energy chain was aimed at making it as difficult as possible for Ukraine to secure energy supply through another way.
Following the attacks, at least five provinces in Ukraine are without electricity. In many other areas the electricity has been partially cut off and there are problems with the water supply.
On Monday, Russia opened fire in at least 20 Ukrainian provinces. The capital Kiev, in particular, has been the subject of heavy attacks. At least 11 people were killed and 64 injured. It has been relatively quiet in and around the Ukrainian capital for months since the Russian retreat in April.
