Ukraine launched, at dawn on Friday, what was considered its first attack on a commercial port inside Russian territory, two days after Moscow targeted the Ukrainian port of Odessa, at a time when Moscow stated that it had thwarted a drone attack on the Crimean peninsula.
Attack on the Russian port
Videos showed the sounds of explosions and gunfire in the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. Other clips also showed the moment of the destruction of what appeared to be a drone boat.
13 marching on the Crimea
The Russian Defense Ministry said that it had thwarted, on Friday, 13 Ukrainian drone attacks on the Crimea peninsula. It added that Russian air defenses shot down 10 Ukrainian drones over Crimea on Friday, and intercepted 3 more of the same type using electronic countermeasures.
Attack on the port of Odessa
On August 2, Russia launched an attack on the Ukrainian port city of Odessa.
Kiev said that the attack, which was carried out by drones, caused material losses in the port of Odessa and its industrial infrastructure.
The attack came as clashes escalated in the Black Sea and adjacent ports since Russia last month refused to extend an agreement allowing the safe export of grain from Ukrainian ports.
These attacks targeted Ukrainian port facilities and wheat silos in or near the Black Sea.
