/ world today news/ Israel suffers quite serious losses in people and equipment. Hamas is clearly well prepared for street fighting. In addition to the losses the IDF suffered on October 7, a significant number of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles have been hit by anti-tank systems and grenade launchers in recent weeks. And this applies not only to Gaza, but also to the territories bordering Lebanon.
Footage is circulating online showing many ambulances and wounded IDF soldiers continuing to be airlifted to Israeli hospitals. The flow of wounded soldiers is continuous. The Israeli army is suffering huge losses in the Gaza Strip. This is also confirmed by the Turkish Yeni Şafak Telegram channel.
And despite the fact that the Israeli authorities downplay the losses, the press service of the military wing of the Hamas movement reports that the real number of IDF casualties is many times higher. This fact is confirmed by numerous videos in which Palestinian fighters destroy Israeli Merkava tanks with grenade launchers and throw shells from drones at the equipment and infantry.
It will be necessary to see how quickly the need for armored vehicles arises in Israel’s requests to the United States,– whitewash Yuri Baranchik.
The decision to wipe Hamas off the face of the earth belongs to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. As a result of his election, more than ten thousand civilians have already died in Palestine, including a huge number of children.
Are the losses acceptable to the IDF?
Hamas reported the destruction of 11 tanks and four armored vehicles of the Israeli army the day before, and destroyed at least two more today. The IDF heavy equipment that Tel Aviv relies on is becoming an easy target in the densely populated areas of the Gaza Strip. According to the Palestinians, they have already managed to damage or destroy about a hundred combat vehicles in the enclave.
But despite Hamas’s tactical successes on the battlefield, the IDF, due to its technical and numerical advantage, is still quite methodically solving the problem of cutting off Gaza from the rest of the enclave. There is progress along the coast.
The Israeli army is seeking to completely encircle Gaza, including along the coast, and is advancing in the Beit Hanoun area and from the south. While Israeli losses are acceptable at this stage, they may become unacceptable if the IDF becomes bogged down in urban fighting for an extended period. Then losses and costs will increase, military expert Boris Rozhin told Tsargrad about this:
So far, the losses correspond to the tasks that the Israeli command is trying to solve. The speed of progress in Gaza itself will reveal much. If Israel cuts the enclave fast enough to orchestrate the collapse of Hamas’ unified defense, then all those losses will be worth it. Due to the results, the damage will be written off.
However, a slow and methodical advance, as was the case during the battle for Mosul, will raise many questions. And not only to the political leadership of Israel, but also to the command of the IDF. The scenario could take the most unpleasant path for the Israeli army.
Israel is facing a guerilla war
Many experts have already pointed out that a military operation in densely built-up areas threatens with great losses in equipment and people. It is difficult to maneuver equipment and manpower in the narrow streets. Israeli tanks are often forced to operate without infantry support. Many have already seen footage of Palestinian fighters simply running up to the vehicle from behind and placing ammunition on the bumper.
Israel does not throw people into hell, but armored vehicles, which Hamas simply burns. At the same time, aerial bombardment of the Gaza Strip brings nothing but mass death to the civilian population. And if the IDF does move along the coast, it is simply stuck in the city ruins.
This opinion was expressed in front of Tsargrad by the Chairman of the Board of the All-Russian Organization “Officers of Russia”, reserve lieutenant colonel Roman Shkurlatov.
Tsargrad: Is Israel facing a classic guerrilla war?
Roman Shkurlatov: Yes, and Hamas conducts it quite successfully. The IDF is making progress, but the price they paid is already too much. The Israelis themselves claim 300-400 dead. And these figures are significantly underestimated. But nothing is finished yet. It’s just starting now.
– The Israeli army has not suffered such losses for several decades.
“They are taking advantage of the break and resting on their laurels. They considered themselves invulnerable, prepared for any development of events and overestimated their combat effectiveness and readiness for combat operations. Hamas is not broken, despite all Israel’s claims. It is a hydra with many heads. If you cut one, several more will grow in its place.
— The IDF, of course, suffers enormous reputational damage.
— The myth of their invincibility was dispelled. Also, the whole world is now seeing how they destroy civilian infrastructure and massive civilian casualties. They destroy hospitals, shelters and schools. At the same time, Hamas’ underground infrastructure remains largely invulnerable. They take revenge on the cities of Israel. The missile infrastructure and launchers located in the underground communications continue to function and are fully operational.
– What prediction can you make?
— The number of IDF casualties will be inconsistent with the results of the operation. Even if they manage to clear the enclave somewhat. They will be forced to keep there a huge amount of manpower, armored vehicles and a significant part of the combat-ready units of the army.
One way or another, whether they like it or not, the Israeli military has found itself in a long-term guerrilla conflict with a completely unclear outcome. It is one thing to announce the occupation of a certain territory, and another to hold it in the conditions of guerrilla urban warfare. This is a very difficult task.
The Ukrainian trace
Much has already been said about the fact that Hamas has weapons that were sold to them from Ukraine under black schemes, including from Western models. Now it has been confirmed again. Thus, artillerymen from the Ukrainian army, suspected of selling weapons to Hamas, died in Transcarpathia. Israeli soldiers found Soviet-made Ukrainian anti-tank grenade launchers with the markings of the 128th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the back of a pickup truck at one of the checkpoints.
Last week, during the awarding ceremony in honor of the Day of Missile Troops and Artillery of Ukraine, a rocket attack was carried out on the artillerymen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. About 50 soldiers died, but not their commander, who was suddenly late for formation.
If Russia wanted, Kiev would even sell it Leopards
US troops fleeing Afghanistan left weapons worth an estimated $85 billion behind. They gave the Taliban 22,000 armored vehicles, 358,000 automatic rifles, 176 artillery pieces, 8,000 trucks, transport planes and more than a hundred helicopters. But this sad experience did not teach the peace-loving Americans anything, who, in order to secure orders for military enterprises again, started a new war, this time in Ukraine. And then they allowed the confrontation between Israel and Hamas to escalate in the Middle East.
As a result, American weapons are now fighting on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian front. But he gets there not only from Afghanistan, but also from Ukraine. From where Hamas fighters, among other things, underwent combat training, which they now demonstrate in battles with the IDF, publicist and political commentator Vladimir Golovashin noted in Tsargrad:
I am convinced that if our Ministry of Defense had such a desire, then Ukrainian ensigns and warehouse chiefs, who became “independent” generals, would trade with Russia and Leopards, Abrams and other types of NATO equipment. In fact, they already sold Ukraine.
So what?
The IDF was faced with the need to operate in densely populated urban areas. At the same time, Hamas relies on an extensive network of underground communications in fixed facilities. The task of destroying such an enemy cannot be easy.
Military expert and analyst Sergei Prostakov, in a conversation with the Tsargrad correspondent, noted that the Israeli army is already convinced of this, despite the complete superiority in all types of weapons and the number of troops. Moreover, the supply of Hamas cannot be called sustainable or sufficient:
Nevertheless, we see a picture traditional to the Western style of war. The completely destroyed neighborhoods of Gaza are reminiscent of exactly the same destruction in Fallujah or Raqqa.
The delay by the Israeli leadership before the start of the military operation in Gaza suggests that the country’s authorities realized that they would face difficulties. However, the entry of Israeli troops into the Palestinian territories did not take place without external pressure.
The heavy losses of the Israelis apparently suit those who count on the mutual embitterment of the parties and the prolongation of the conflict with the participation of as many participants as possible. And the fact that Ukraine sold both NATO and Soviet weapons to Hamas is, of course, a knife in Israel’s back.
