In Ukraine, the situation in several sectors of the front is difficult, but controllable, said Valery Zaluzhny, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, in a conversation with Charles Brown, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff.
He pointed specifically to the efforts of Russian troops to attack near Avdiyivka, Marjinka and Kupyansk.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed a similar assessment in his address on Monday evening, stating that things are complicated on the front. He also thanked the soldiers holding the positions.
The statement about Zaluzhny’s conversation with Brown said that special attention was paid to the issue of supplies of anti-aircraft defenses needed by Ukraine.
Additional supplies of anti-aircraft defenses and the protection of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure were also discussed in Washington in the talks between US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak.
Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser to the US president, in turn, urged Congress to approve aid to Ukraine in the new fiscal year as soon as possible.
Without that approval, the U.S. administration’s ability to provide aid to Ukraine “is shrinking by the week,” Sullivan said.
