KIEV – Ukrainian troops shot down 13 drones on Wednesday (12/14/2022), according to Kiev officials. Russia has launched its first major drone strike on the capital Kiev in weeks.

The United States (USA) is considering sending its advanced Patriot air defense system to help Ukraine.

There have been no peace talks to end the conflict, which has killed thousands, displaced millions and reduced cities to ruins.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this week called for Russia to begin withdrawing before Christmas as a first step towards a peace deal.

The Kremlin said on Wednesday that a “Christmas truce” was not on the agenda.

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said an explosion rocked the central Shevchenkivskyi district on Wednesday and two administrative buildings were damaged. The air raid alarm was lifted three hours after it started.

In one of Kiev’s neighborhoods, residents said they heard the sound of the Shahed Iran drone followed by a massive explosion in the building next to their home.
