Ukraine severely punishes Russian aid

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted in the last reading a bill that provides for “cooperation” with Russia to be punished by up to 12 years in prison.

The text of the bill was adopted with 350 votes in favor, none against and 39 abstentions, the Rada said.

Thus, a new article entitled “Assistance and complicity with the aggressor state” is added to the current Ukrainian Penal Code, which punishes with “10 to 12 years” imprisonment any “cooperation” with the “enemy”, its administration, troops or paramilitaries. formation.

In addition, convicts will be barred from holding administrative positions, including at the local level, for up to 15 years and may have their property confiscated.

This is the first law of its kind passed by the Ukrainian parliament since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24.

“This is a fair sanction against those who help the aggressor,” said Olena Chulyak, leader of the Servant of the People presidential party.

The prosecutor’s office in Kherson, occupied by the Russian army, immediately announced in “Telegram” that it had launched an investigation against “two residents” of Nova Kakhovka, 80 km east of the city, suspected of “voluntarily” helping the invader’s forces.
