ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ukraine has announced its participation in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Electronic band Tvorchi was selected during the national final with the track Heart of steel.

Due to the war, the selection show was broadcast from an underground station in Kiev which is used as a bomb shelter. The Ukrainian organizer told the BBC this was chosen because the show could go on if there was a Russian air raid.

Gas masks

During Tvorchi’s performance, the dancers wore gas masks. On the screens behind them were lyrics like “Don’t be afraid to speak your mind.”

This is the English-language song that Ukraine will participate in next year:

The gang won ten more acts. Most of the songs referred to the war. The select show ran for a total of four hours and was streamed online.

Liverpool

The Eurovision Song Contest is in the next year Liverpool. Due to the war, the festival cannot take place in Ukraine, a country which this year won in Turin with the band Kalush Orchestra.

Normally, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest is the host country of the next edition. With Brit Sam Ryder finishing second this year, organizer EBU has decided to stage the event in a UK city.
