Ukraine-Russia war, “Moscow can participate in Eurovision”

War in Ukraine? Russia will still be able to participate in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest despite having launched a military assault on the country. This is, as reported by the BBC in the late afternoon yesterday, the decision taken at the moment by the organizers of the international music festival (the members of the EBU, European Broadcasting Union, or of the European public services, ed) who, responding to the request of the state TV of Ukraine to disqualify Russia from the competition, highlighted how Eurovision is a “non-political cultural event”, pointing out that they are planning to welcome both Ukrainian and Russian artists. The event will take place in Turin from 10 to 14 May. There are, therefore, more than two months and in the face of this time frame the organizers of the EBU assure: “We will of course continue to monitor the situation closely“. It was in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, that one of the recent editions of the Eurovision Song Contest was held, that of 2017 when Russia finally decided to withdraw, Italy participated with Francesco Gabbani (winner of the Sanremo Festival with the his ‘Occidentale’s Karma’) and Portugal won.
