Ukraine and Russia have blamed each other for overnight airstrikes in their border regions, with Ukrainian officials saying two people were killed and four wounded in the Sumy region, while Russia said three civilians were wounded in Belgorod.
Two children are among the wounded in Sumy, the military command of the northeastern Ukrainian region announced today via Telegram. Homes and cars were damaged, he added.
On the other side of the border, in the southwestern region of Belgorod, three civilians, two of them children, were injured by a Ukrainian airstrike, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said via Telegram.
He added that two residential buildings were destroyed and a total of more than 15 buildings were damaged.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced via Telegram that it destroyed two Ukrainian drones over Belgorod overnight.
Reuters notes that it was unable to confirm the information from an independent source.
The Sumy region, as well as that of Belgorod, are targets of frequent attacks. Both sides deny targeting civilians and maintain that their attacks are aimed at destroying enemy infrastructure critical to the war effort.
