The Russian delegation is constantly lowering its demands in talks with Ukraine, Oleksiy Arestovich, an adviser to the head of the Ukrainian president’s chancellery, said on Friday.
“They stopped talking about denacification and so on,” Arestovich said.
A spokesman for Ukraine’s presidential office said the Russian delegation had not emphasized the need for Ukraine to renounce military alliances.
“It was a matter of not allowing the deployment of certain types of offensive weapons in Ukraine,” Arestovich explained.
According to the Ukrainian official, the softening of the requirements shows that the Russian side has understood that they will not be able to achieve political goals during the war.
At the same time, Arestovich acknowledged that during the talks on Thursday, the parties had managed to “theoretically agree” on humanitarian aid and the establishment of humanitarian corridors in Russian besieged cities.
Arestovich added that such an agreement would be supported by the international community.
