At least four people were killed and ten injured in a Russian shelling on Kherson in southern Ukraine on Thursday. Moscow’s troops withdrew from this city two weeks ago. Since then the strikes have been incessant.
“I receive reports almost every hour about the strikes of the occupiers in Kherson and other places in the region. This terror started right after the Russian army was forced to flee from the Kherson region.” This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in his daily speech on Thursday evening.
“It is the revenge of those who have lost. They can’t fight. The only thing they can still do is terrorize. Either energy terror, artillery terror, or missile terror – that’s all Russia can do with its current leadership.”
In Vyshgorod, near Kiev, Russian attacks on Wednesday left six dead and thirty wounded. Four apartment buildings and a school were damaged.
In the capital, where temperatures are now close to freezing, about 70% of the population was left without electricity on Thursday and the water supply was restored, according to the town hall.
Russia’s sights on energy infrastructure are visible from space. The lighting of Ukrainian cities lost intensity as the war progressed according to NASA images. This tweet from an adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry shows a satellite photo of Eastern Europe, taken at night on Nov. 23 by NASA. Ukraine is much darker than its neighbors.
Generating sets therefore represent an emergency solution for the supply of electricity to certain infrastructures, especially hospitals.
