The United States and Europe are discussing with Kiev the possibility of negotiations with Russia and what it will have to sacrifice for the sake of peace, NBC reports, citing officials.
“Officials from the United States and Europe have begun talking with the Ukrainian government about the possible implications of peace talks with Russia to end the war.
The talks included the general outlines of what Ukraine must give up in order to reach an agreement,” the material states.
According to NBC, American and European officials are concerned about what they say is a stalemate in the conflict. They are also uncertain about their ability to provide additional aid to Kiev.
“Officials in the Biden administration are also concerned that Ukraine is depleting its forces, while Russia appears to have endless reserves,” the channel added.
The media recalled Kiev’s problems with recruiting military personnel and the protests with which society accepted the latest mobilization plans. Ukraine probably only has until the end of the year before peace talks become more urgent, officials say.
They suggest that NATO could offer Kiev some security guarantees without Ukraine formally joining the alliance as an incentive for negotiations.
Russia has repeatedly expressed its readiness for negotiations, but the authorities in Kiev introduced a ban on them at the legislative level.
The Kremlin also notes that at the moment there are no prerequisites for the situation to move in a peaceful direction, and achieving the goals of the special operation remains an absolute priority for Moscow.
According to Vladimir Putin, Russia has never refused dialogue, but the other side must directly show its readiness for it.
