Ukraine reveals the details of “Operation Yahidny” and denies the Russian story

Ukraine’s military said on Sunday that Russia launched failed attacks near the village of Yahidny during the past day, after the “Wagner” group said it had captured the village in eastern Ukraine near an area where fighting is raging.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said: “Russia is still focusing its attack along the front lines in the entire city of Bakhmut, where the village of Yahidny is located.”

The months-long fighting for control of Bakhmut, whose population has dwindled from 70,000 to 5,000, is witnessing some of the most draining battles of the year-long war.

The commander of the Russian “Wagner” group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, stated on Saturday that his forces had captured Yahidny.

On Friday, he said it had also captured Barkhivka, a village next to Lyahedni on the outskirts of Bakhmut.

But the Ukrainian publication said the attacks were still continuing, citing “failed attacks” near six locations including Yahidny and Berkhivka in Donetsk region.

On Sunday, the Ukrainian Bulletin said that Russian forces bombed 22 locations along this part of the front lines in Donetsk, while Ukraine thwarted 71 attacks in the region and elsewhere on the front lines.
