Ukraine has retaken at least a kilometer while Russia’s 72nd Motorized Rifle Brigade has probably retreated from its positions on the southern flank at Bakhmut in disarray, writes the British Ministry of Defense in its daily intelligence report on Twitter.

– The area has a certain tactical significance because it was a Russian foothold on the west side of the Donets-Donbas canal, which forms the front line in parts of this sector, writes the ministry.
The brigade is described as part of the 3rd Army Corps, which was established in 2023. There have been several allegations of low morale and fighting ability in the corps.
– The deployment of the corps at such a demanding front section makes clear Russia’s serious lack of credible combat units, says Saturday’s report.
