Kiev –
Military Ukraine for the first time reported that the troops Russia began blowing up bridges to slow down the counterattack from the Kiev forces. Russian activity of this kind is reported in the north-eastern part of Ukraine.
As reported CNNSaturday (7/5/2022), the General Staff of the Ukrainian military in the latest information said Russian troops blew up bridges in the Tsyrkuny and Rusky Tyshky areas, which are located in the east Kharkivthe second largest city in Ukraine.
“The invaders blew up three road bridges to slow down the counter-attack of the (Ukraine) Armed Forces,” the General Staff of the Ukrainian military said in a statement on Saturday (7/5) local time.
The claim could not be independently verified by CNN.
But in the past two weeks, the Ukrainian army has managed to retake a number of villages to the north and east of Kharkiv. This made it difficult for Russian troops to use artillery against the city, as well as potentially blocking Russian supply lines for soldiers fighting in Donetsk and Luhansk.
In a statement, the General Staff of the Ukrainian military also cited a slight pause in the Russian offensive. He stated that for two days in a row, there had been only a small number of strikes from Russian troops, despite continued artillery fire and aerial reconnaissance.
Ukrainian officials believe that Russian military units are pausing before launching the next phase aimed at securing the entire Donetsk and Luhansk regions, two areas controlled by pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.
Outside of these two areas, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian military, Russian troops continue to pound the city of Mykolaiv. Meanwhile in the north, Ukraine claimed to have destroyed ‘a warehouse with ammunition and up to 20 units of enemy military equipment’.
