Ukraine Releases Video of US-supplied HIMARS Attack Obliterating Russian Msta Howitzers in Donetsk

KYIV – Ministry of Defense Ukraine has shared new video footage showing a US-made HIMARS strike obliterating four Msta howitzers Russia in the eastern Donetsk region.

The ministry had, on Monday morning, said four howitzers self-propelled The Russian Msta was destroyed by the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) perfect shot.

Video footage, allegedly taken from a drone near Russian troop positions, shows Moscow soldiers fleeing after several explosions.

However, the ministry did not specify when or where the video was recorded.

Ukraine has repeatedly shared footage of its forces using HIMARS to target Russian positions. According to the US Department of Defense, the weapon has been in use with Kyiv forces since June 2022, and so far Washington has supplied 38 HIMARS with ammunition.

HIMARS and other artillery are on Kyiv’s list of wanted security assistance from its Western allies and the effective use of the artillery is key to Ukraine’s ongoing counteroffensive.

“Artillery is very important in this war,” Davis Ellison, a strategic analyst at the Hague Center for Security Studies told Newsweekwhich was launched Tuesday (15/8/2023).

Kyiv hopes to push Moscow’s forces back from fronts in southern and eastern Ukraine in its current offensive, now in its third month.
