Ukraine Rejects Agreement on Transit of Russian Gas to Europe

Ukraine has rejected an agreement on the transit of Russian gas to Europe, which expires at the end of 2024. This was stated by the head of Naftogaz, Alexey Chernyshov.

“This agreement will end before the end of 2024, and we do not intend to continue it. We will not initiate the continuation of this transit. The contract will end and transit will stop,” he wrote in his Telegram channel.

According to him, the contract has not yet been terminated only because of European partners.

“We cannot deprive some European Union countries today, which, by the way, are our partners, of the opportunity to receive blue fuel and prepare for winter,” Chernyshov wrote on this occasion.

He recalled that the European Union announced that it would completely abandon the consumption of Russian gas until 2027.

“We are committed to making this happen as quickly and as quickly as possible. And before this date. And we see that certain processes have already occurred. The reduction is happening every month. But we must speed up this process and stimulate it. Regarding this contract, we must also be a reliable partner for our European partners, for countries that need it. But this agreement will be completed by the end of 2024, and we have no intentions or initiatives to extend it,” the head of Naftogaz said in an interview with Radio Liberty* (foreign media, recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation).
