The Ukrainian army is “reinforcing” its positions in the Kursk region, President Volodymyr Zelensky said today, more than ten days after the start of a large-scale offensive on Russian soil.

“General (Olexandr) Sirsky reported strengthening the positions of our forces in the Kursk region and expanding the stabilized area,” Zelensky said on Telegram after a meeting with the head of the Ukrainian army.

How does Moscow respond?

For its part, the Russian Defense Ministry said today that it had “pushed back” the Ukrainian army near three communities in the Kursk region.

Russian soldiers “repelled” Ukrainian “attacks” “in the direction of the communities of Korenevo, Ruskoye and Cherkaskoye Poretnoye,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement

Russian concern over the Kursk nuclear power plant

Besides, the Russian Defense Ministry accused Ukraine of planning to attack the Kursk nuclear power plant and blamed Moscow for this “provocation”, as reported by the Interfax news agency.

The ministry said Russia would respond harshly to such an attack, which it said would contaminate a large area around the station.

Ukraine invaded Russia’s western Kursk region on August 6 and claims to have taken control of 82 settlements in an area of 1,150 square kilometers since then.

However, the Kursk nuclear power plant remains under Russian control.

Ukrainian bombing of the bridge in Sheim – The moment it blows up

Aiming to prevent the resupply of the Russian army, the Ukrainians blew up two bridges on the Sheim River, cutting off the Glushovsky district of 20,000 inhabitants.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Western missiles, possibly American-made, were used to bombard one of the bridges, killing volunteers who were trying to evacuate civilians. The bridge at Shem was used to supply the Russian troops.
