Ukraine puts second division of Patriot anti-aircraft missile system on combat duty

The second division of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system took up combat duty in Ukraine. This was stated by the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykola Oleshchuk in Telegram.

“They say there is a ban on the General Staff “selfie” against the background of equipment! Sorry, I couldn’t resist. The second division of the Patriot air defense system is already in operation! We are strengthening air defense, bringing victory closer,” he wrote.

Oleshchuk published a selfie against the background of the AN / MPQ-53 radar station, which is part of the Patriot air defense system.

On April 21, he announced that the first such air defense systems had arrived in Ukraine and promised more news about them.

REFERENCE. Patriot complexes developed by Raytheon were first deployed by the US Army in the mid-1980s. Patriot is being modernized and is in service with more than ten countries, including the United States, Israel, Germany, and Spain.

Po data German military, the Patriot system covers an area with a radius of about 68 km. Its radar can track up to 50 targets and aim at five of them at the same time. Depending on the modification, interceptor missiles can reach a height of more than 24 km and hit targets at a distance of up to 160 km.
