New York

President Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky warned global leaders attending the General Assembly United Nations (UN) that the purpose of the military invasion Russia to his country ‘it’s not just about Ukraine’.

As reported CNN, Wednesday (20/9/2023), Zelensky delivered a speech directly before the UN General Assembly which was taking place in New York, USA, this week. He is also scheduled to visit the White House and meet in person with President Joe Biden.

“Aggressors use many other things as weapons and these things are used not only against our country, but also against all your countries,” said Zelensky in his speech at UN headquarters on Tuesday (19/9) local time.

First, Zelensky cited Russia’s blockade of ports on the Black Sea as making it difficult for Ukraine to send supplies of grain for food, raising concerns about rising food prices contributing to global hunger.

“It’s clear — Russia’s attempt to weaponize food shortages on the global market in exchange for recognition of some, if not all, of the captured territories,” he said.

Russia is using food prices as a weapon. The impact extends from the Atlantic coast of Africa to Southeast Asia. And this is the scale of the threat,” said Zelensky.

Later, Zelensky touched on Russia’s efforts to block gas and oil supplies to European countries that depend on the country, calling it “weaponizing energy.”

“The Kremlin used oil and gas as a weapon to weaken the leaders of other countries. Now, this threat is even greater,” Zelensky accused.
