Ukraine prepares for escalation on the border with Belarus,

According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the department considers the events on the Polish-Belarusian border in the context of the Kremlin’s general strategy to weaken the EU, therefore, an influx of refugees is expected to enter Ukraine.

Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky said that Ukraine is preparing for an escalation on the border with Belarus and an influx of migrants from there. About it informs press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the results of a telephone conversation with the EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs Ilva Johansson.

According to Monastyrski, Ukraine views the events on the Polish-Belarusian border in the context of Moscow’s overall strategy aimed at weakening the European Union. Therefore, our country is interested in expanding cooperation with the EU.

In the Ministry of Internal Affairs, I regard the events on the border of Poland, Lithuania and Belarus as such that they are likely to lead to an escalation and a buildup of refugees from Belarus to Ukraine. Therefore, for these purposes it is also advisable to move to the second phase of the project “EU Support to Strengthen Integrated Border Management in Ukraine”. This project will strengthen the protection of the borders of Ukraine and Belarus, as well as improve the equipment of border guards. It should be implemented by June 2022.

Recall migrants began to break the fence on the border with Poland, Belarusian authorities gave refugees stun grenades. At the same time, according to Butusov’s information, Ukraine will send cadets of military universities to the border with Belarus.
