MADRID, 18 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Polish Prosecutor’s Office announced this Thursday the arrest of a man of Polish citizenship suspected of having links with Russian Intelligence and helping to prepare a possible attack against the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

The detainee, identified as Pawel K., faces up to eight years in prison for espionage under Article 130 of the Polish Penal Code. The suspect has reported that he intends to collaborate with the investigation opened by the authorities, as reported by the Prosecutor’s Office in a statement.

The Polish Public Prosecutor’s Office has asked the district court in the capital, Warsaw, to issue a “preventive measure in the form of temporary arrest” against the suspect. “The investigation is ongoing,” he added.

The man established contact with Russian citizens “directly involved in the war in Ukraine” and his tasks consisted of collecting and providing information to Russian Intelligence about the security of the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport in order to attack, at a given moment, against Zelensky’s life.

«The General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine transmitted to the Polish Prosecutor’s Office information about the possibility that Pawel K. had committed a crime. “Then, during the investigation, key evidence was obtained from the Ukrainian side as part of legal assistance,” he said in a statement.

For his part, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Andriy Kostin, has highlighted on the social network

“This case underscores the persistent threat that Russia represents not only to Ukraine and Ukrainians but to the entire free world. “The criminal Kremlin regime constantly tries to undermine European and global security,” she added.

Kostin has expressed his gratitude to the prosecutors, investigators and agents of the Ukrainian Security Service for their “effective” work, as well as to the Polish Ministry of Justice and “personally” to its head, Adam Bodnar.
