Ukraine Officially Allows Writing ‘aggressor country Russia’ with Lowercase Letter: Report

In Ukraine, they officially allowed the name of the aggressor country Russia to be written with a lowercase letter, Obozrevatel reported.

In particular, we are talking about unofficial texts. This was announced by the National Commission for State Language Standards.

The commission made this decision after a meeting (minutes No. 83), taking into account official letters from the Institute of Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (entry No. 1396/23 dated 14.09.2023) and the Institute of Linguistics (entry No. 1404/23 of 15.09.2023).

The spelling of the names “Russian Federation”, “Russia”, “Moscow”, “Moscow”, “Moscow Kingdom”, “Russian Empire”, “state word of the Russian Federation”, etc. with a lowercase letter can no longer be qualified as a deviation from Ukrainian language norms.

Earlier, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a draft law that prohibits giving geographical objects in Ukraine names associated with the aggressor state Russia. Its goal is to reduce the influence of the Russian Federation on the worldview of the Ukrainian people and the internal politics of Ukraine.
