Ukraine is offering Gazprom a 50 percent discount on gas transit to Europe above the 40 billion cubic meters a year that Ukraine already transports to Europe from Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an e-mail comment to Bloomberg News. BTA reported.

He added that additional capacity would also be available to Gazprom. The company declined to comment.

“Ukraine offers this additional capacity to all potential transit countries. We would like to see all European companies as customers, but the additional capacity is also available for Gazprom. And given the current transit tariffs, the discount, I guess, will be 50 percent, “Zelenski said.

He added that Ukraine was discussing a proposal to supply gas with Berlin and Brussels. “We expect them to take steps soon in practical negotiations on this issue, which is certainly important for the whole of Europe.”

“Ukraine, for its part, guarantees special anti-crisis conditions for transit outside the contractual volumes,” he added. “Let me be clear: I am confident that if we do not do this now, the losses for Europe this winter will be enormous. Only rapid coordinated action can stop this crisis,” Zelenski said.

The gas crisis in Europe worsened this fall, as spot prices began to rise sharply and exceeded $ 1,000 per 1,000 cubic meters and almost reached $ 2,000 per 1,000 cubic meters amid low occupancy of gas storage facilities, reminds TASS.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said his country is ready to increase supplies to the EU through the controversial Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline as soon as it receives regulatory approval, a move that many see as blackmail, Bloomberg said.
