The military intelligence service of Ukraine caused a fire on the Russian missile ship “Serpuhov” at the Baltic Navy base, rendering the ship unusable, Kyiv announced on Monday.
The Russian side has not yet received any news about the fire on “Serpuhov”, which is classified as a “Bujan-M” class small missile ship.
The Main Intelligence Agency of Ukraine announced that the fire on the ship started on April 7 at the base in the Russian-held exclave of Koenigsberg (Karalyuchi). The statement did not clearly state that the fire was the result of an operation by Ukrainian intelligence services, but hinted that it was and promised a follow-up.
Ukrainian media, citing sources in the security services, also wrote that the fire was the result of an operation by Ukrainian intelligence services. The media and the Central Intelligence Agency reported that the fire destroyed the ship’s communications and automation equipment and that it would take a long time to restore them.
“Serpuhov” is one of the newest ships of the Russian Navy. It was launched in 2015 and was initially part of the Black Sea Fleet before being transferred to the Baltic Sea. The ship can carry up to eight cruise missiles.
