The battalion commander emphasizes that at the beginning of the war the whole country came to its senses and was determined to actively resist the enemy.
According to Kuharchuk, the situation has changed drastically since the military actions in Kiev and the expulsion of Russian forces from the area near the capital.
“Immediately after that, I noticed that mass media began to appear that the Russian army does not know how to fight, that the victory will be in a week or two, a month at the most.
That first in the spring, then in the summer, then in the fall, then in the winter, without specifying when exactly in the winter, we will enter the Crimea, that the war is generally victorious.
So people were put in a “warm bath”. I don’t know the reasons for this. We have had a failure in our vision of reality. It looked as if everyone had put on some kind of glasses. But there was no turning point in Russia. They began to understand that the war would not be easy for them, they realized that they would have to fight for a long time,” says Kuharchuk.
He expresses doubt that the opponent is a “degenerate”, because, according to him, if this is the case, Ukraine would have defeated him long ago.
According to the battalion commander, the main difference is that Ukraine is a democratic society in which citizens’ opinions matter. In Russia, according to him, no one cares about the opinion of its citizens and no one consults them whether they want to participate in military actions or not.
“That’s why they are getting stronger every day, and we are losing. They have these processes going on, the readiness of their society is much higher than the readiness of our society. And when they talk about a nuclear bomb, a war of all against all, somehow the reason, it seems to me, is that they are ready for these processes,” Kuharchuk adds.
