Ukraine Launches Third HIMARS Missile Attack on Russian Soldiers, Resulting in Casualties

For the third time in a week, the armed forces of Ukraine launched a missile attack on a mass of Russian soldiers. This time, the target was the military, built for an award ceremony in Elenovka, Donetsk region. “They are talking about yet another awarding of troops and another HIMARS missile attack on our military and subsequent losses. They will not learn,” wrote Oleg Tsarev, a former member of the Verkhovna Rada who defected to Russia.

The information was confirmed by Z-channels. According to the “Spy File”, the strike was carried out with two HIMARS missiles at the place where the personnel of the 155th Marine Brigade had gathered on February 27, around 19:00. The command was said to have built the entire award squad. As a result, at least 19 servicemen died, another 12 were injured. The source of the channel claims that the command was informed about the operation of a Ukrainian reconnaissance drone in this area, but ignored the information.

This is the third strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine against a gathering of Russian military personnel in a week. On February 21, the training ground near the village of Podo-Kalinovka in the Kherson region was attacked. The strike, again with HIMARS, is said to have killed at least 60 military personnel. A day before, on February 20, a training ground of the Russian army near the village of Trudovskoe near Volnovakha in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic was attacked. At the time of the attack, there were three companies of soldiers waiting for the arrival of Major General Oleg Moiseev. 68 soldiers died.

Failure

The Armed Forces of Ukraine acknowledged the death of fighters from the elite Ukrainian special forces. Special Operations Forces announced that service members from the 73rd Marine Special Operations Center were killed last night. The Z-channels claim that the dead tried to land on the Tendrovo spit in the Kherson region. According to the VSU announcement, the fighters died while “ensuring the withdrawal of the group’s main forces after the completion of a special task.” Details are not disclosed.

The Russian channel Mash claims that the Ukrainian military tried to land on the Tendrovo Spit with five boats. Four of them were drowned, and the fifth managed to escape. At least 20 Ukrainian servicemen were killed. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 25 Ukrainian servicemen were killed and one was captured.

Tedrovskaya Kosa is a long, narrow island in the Black Sea, off the coast of Kherson region. If the VSU manages to gain a foothold there, it will be able to strike the occupied part of the Kherson region and the north-western part of the annexed Crimea.

On social networks, the Ukrainian military expressed dissatisfaction with the failed operation and wrote that “today is a black day for the Special Operations Forces”. They ask what the point of the operation was, given that the island is deep in the rear of the Russian troops and it is impossible for anyone to gain a foothold there for long. Others explain that the idea is not new, there have already been successful operations there, but the tactics must change.

“More than once there were already landings there, many groups successfully completed tasks. But the enemy also apparently learned lessons. You cannot act on the same pattern five times. But the command, for some reason, did not think so and sent a new group. The command knew , that the enemy intercepted information about the landing, but did not take any measures to postpone the operation, or at least to change its plan. And for this, too high a price was paid. The dead and missing are more than can be seen in the photos published by the Russians”, sources explained to the Ukrainian edition “Strana”.
