Ukraine Launches Missile Attack on Crimean Bridge, Russia Claims Intercept

The Crimean Bridge linking Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula and the mainland, which Russia occupied in 2014, has been attacked again, Russia said.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement on the 12th local time, “Ukraine launched a missile attack on the Crimean Bridge, but it was detected in time and intercepted with air defenses.”

It added that there were no casualties from the missile attack.

The Crimean Bridge is the only bridge that directly connects the Russian mainland and the Crimean Peninsula, and Russian President Putin showed an attachment to it to the extent of directly participating in the opening ceremony in 2018.

On Russian social media, a video was posted showing the Crimean Bridge engulfed in smoke, and Interfax news agency said the bridge was once under control.

Meanwhile, since the attempted drone attack on the Kremlin in early May, drone and missile attacks targeting Moscow and the Russian mainland and Crimea have been on the rise.

It was destroyed and restored once in October of last year, and was attacked on the 17th of last month, killing two people.
