On Thursday, Ukraine announced that it had launched a special military operation in Crimea at night، Confirming that it led to the killing of Russian soldiers, during which the Ukrainian flag was re-raised in the region annexed by Russia in 2014.
The directorate added, through the Telegram application, that “special units on boats landed on the beach in the areas of Olenivka and Mayak.”
It indicated that “all targets were achieved and human losses were inflicted on the enemy,” without specifying those targets.
Reuters was unable to independently verify the report.
The Ukrainian Military Intelligence Service said, “The enemy recorded human and material losses, and the national flag fluttered again over the Ukrainian Crimea.”
He explained that units of the Special Forces landed in the towns of Olenivka and Mayak in western Crimea, before leaving without recording losses in their ranks.
On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pledged to end Russia’s occupation of Crimea and all other Moscow-controlled regions of his country.
“Crimea will be liberated, like all other parts of Ukraine, which unfortunately are still under occupation,” Zelensky told an international conference on Crimea, which was reported by more than 60 countries.
Russia seized Crimea and annexed it in 2014 in a move that most other countries did not recognize.
Moscow took control of other parts of Ukraine in a massive invasion launched in February 2022.
Ukraine launched a counterattack in early June, to try to regain the territories occupied by Russia.
