Drones from the Ukrainian military intelligence (GUR) attacked a Russian aviation training and repair center located in the Russian city of Borisoglebsk, in the Voronezh region of western Russia, last morning, according to an anonymous GUR source. Reuters and the Kyiv Independent digital newspaper.
Closed-circuit television images obtained by Reuters showed the explosion that occurred on Tuesday. Reuters was able to confirm the location based on the buildings, poles and road layout seen in the video, which match the street view and satellite images.
The Russian Telegram channel Astra, which reports daily on the course of the war in Ukraine, had previously reported an attack with two drones that caused damage to an infrastructure building.
The Russian Defense Ministry said two drones were shot down over the region.
In recent times, kyiv has intensified attacks inside Russian territory, targeting military installations and energy infrastructure that contribute to Moscow’s war effort.
The Ukrainian Army and secret services have developed, in collaboration with the private sector, unmanned devices capable of reaching long-distance targets to carry out this type of actions.
Atthat against Briansk
Russia has been reporting almost daily for several weeks the downing of drones and missiles in regions bordering Ukraine, mainly Belgorod, Voronezh and Bryansk, as well as the Saratov region.
This Tuesday, two people were killed and three others were injured in a Ukrainian artillery attack in Bryansk, local governor Alexandr Bogomaz reported this Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, a woman and a child died. According to preliminary data, three other people were injured,” Bogomaz wrote on Telegram.
The Russian governor accused Ukrainian forces of this “terrorist attack” that also caused a fire in a house.
“Several vehicles were also damaged,” he added, specifying that the attack took place in the town of Klímovo, with about 13,000 inhabitants.
asymmetric warfare
Ukrainian attacks in recent weeks have targeted oil refineries and depots in particular, although they have also occasionally hit urban centers. In Belgorod, enemy bombing left more than 26 dead in a month and nearly 200 injured.
The Ukrainian forces are at a disadvantage compared to the Russian ones in aspects such as ammunition, artillery systems and the number of personnel, and they try to compensate for this inferiority with asymmetric warfare actions such as these drone attacks.
In addition, Russian opponents based in Ukraine have been launching cross-border attacks.
Ukraine generally does not comment directly on attacks on Russian territory. But its authorities declare that any military action there is a direct consequence of Russia’s illegal and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine when Russian forces launched their full-scale invasion in February 2022.
