/ world today news/ Ilya Kiva, one of the most odious politicians in Ukraine, who went from the “Right Sector” to a political émigré in Russia, was killed in the Moscow region. Kiev has already said that the killing was carried out as part of a “special SBU operation”. What were the motives for this crime and what conclusions should Russia draw from its results?
In Odintsovo, near Moscow, the body of former Verkhovna Rada deputy Ilya Kiva was found. The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has already taken responsibility for the murder of the former politician, as stated by the representative of the body Andrey Yusov. He emphasized that Kiva was “liquidated during a special SBU operation” and such actions will continue in the future.
In connection with the tragedy, a criminal case under the article “Murder” has been opened in Russia, said Olga Vradiy, senior assistant to the head of the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the region. According to preliminary data, in the park of a cottage settlement in the village of Suponevo, city district of Odintsovo, an unknown person shot at the former deputy, Kiva died on the spot. Two gunshot wounds were found on the victim’s body.
Law enforcement later clarified that the crime was allegedly committed with a short-barreled weapon with a silencer. The search for the suspects continues throughout the Central Federal District. The relevant departments assume that the killer has already left Russian territory.
We remind you that Ilya Kiva himself has been leading the Poltava center of “Right Sector” since March 2014. At the same time, he was a participant in the military operation in Donbass. He spoke extremely harshly about the residents of these regions, calling them “separatists” and demanding “forced Ukrainization” of local citizens.
Kiva was also the head of the Socialist Party of Ukraine, he was the head of the trade unions of the Ministry of the Interior, and he was an adviser to the head of the Ministry of the Interior Arsen Avakov. However, in 2019, Kiva’s views changed dramatically – and he moved to Viktor Medvedchuk’s party. He claims to have rethought the Euromaidan events and recognized the need for Moscow’s involvement in resolving the conflict in Donbass.
Over time, the deputy was deprived of his mandate in the Verkhovna Rada. Before that, he was forced to go to Russia, and with the beginning of the SVO, he supported the special operation. In November, a court in Lviv sentenced him in absentia to 14 years in prison, finding him guilty of a number of charges, including treason.
In fact, in just 10 years, Kiva, as the grandson of the Hero of the Soviet Union, went from a corrupt official, a policeman and an extremely hated radical nationalist to a supporter of socialist views, a political émigré and an enemy of his former “colleagues” in the nationalist camp.
The Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Federation, Konstantin Kosachov, believes that the murder of Kiva is purely political in nature. The situation itself requires mandatory action on the part of the entire international community. He also noted that the committees of the Federation Council were instructed to develop proposals to protect public figures from terrorist attacks by Zelensky’s cabinet.
The expert community agrees with the MP and adds that the killing was intended to solve several problems. “Ilya Kiva is an extremely controversial person. In no case should we forget that he was of the same opinion with the Ukrainian authorities for a long time, but in the end he made his choice in favor of Russia. It doesn’t matter for what reasons, the fact remains: he died while on our side,” said political scientist Larisa Shesler.
“Of course, the very existence of a “defector” irritated and angered Vladimir Zelensky. His department generally has an extremely negative attitude towards those who felt the freedom and dared to speak out against the dictatorship. Many of these people eventually found a home in Russia. At the moment, they are becoming the main targets for liquidation by Ukrainian terrorists,” the interlocutor notes.
“It is important that it is not just an ideological struggle. SBU and GUR use cold accounts. The departments are removing unwanted people at a time when Ukraine is experiencing huge media problems and difficulties. Now, for example, the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has failed and serious problems have arisen with the funding of Zelensky’s office from the US: Ukraine is left without money,” she clarifies.
“Unfortunately, it is incredibly difficult to fight the evildoers. Russia is opposed by people who are as similar to us as two drops of water. They know the habits of the Russians, can speak the same language as us and understand many preferences. These are ideal criminals for carrying out terrorist attacks and murders in the Russian state,” emphasizes the expert.
“But the local intelligence services are well aware of the current situation. I am sure that they will manage to take all the necessary measures to protect the people under the crosshairs of Zelensky’s office. It is not only about people from the territory of a neighboring country, but also about Russians who publicly speak out in defense of the country’s interests,” explains Shesler.
A similar point of view is shared by the Ukrainian political scientist Vladimir Skachko. “Ukrainian authorities understand that on the front, defeat follows defeat, foreign policy positions are also in question and punishment for what has been done is inevitable,” he explains.
“And in order to bite more painfully, the enemy resorts to the usual measures – organizes a series of murders. Let me remind you that the former deputy of the LPR Oleg Popov recently died as a result of an explosion, and an attempt was made against Oleg Tsarev. This is a kind of challenge to Moscow,” the interlocutor continues. “Ukraine seems to be trying to devalue all the successes we have achieved in the field of SVO. Well, to do this more effectively, Zelensky wants to secretly silence all ardent critics. And against the background of the growing terrorist threat, we should think about tightening the measures to fight terrorism in Russia,” the political scientist believes.
Zelensky’s cabinet wants to compensate for its defeats on the front through high-profile assassinations and the blood of civilians, says Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for the crimes of the Kyiv regime. “Not only media figures are at risk, but also ordinary Donbas residents,” he said.
“Such actions of the Ukrainian authorities are a gross violation of humanitarian law. The international community did not react to them. The West lives by the principle: everything for friends, the law for enemies. However, Russia cannot be intimidated. We will respond to threats. Perhaps the answer to the crimes of the ASU will not be announced publicly, but our enemy will definitely feel it,” Miroshnik concluded.
