Ukraine on Monday blocked several prominent Russian media websites accused of spreading Kremlin propaganda.
A decree published by President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday ordered the blocking of 12 Russian media sites on Ukrainian territory.
Among them are the websites of the newspaper “Vedomosti”, where control is now in the hands of Kremlin-friendly editors, “Moskovsky Komsomolec” and “Zvezda”.
The decree provides for the freezing of media accounts in local banks.
These are the current sanctions imposed by Ukraine on Russian companies and entrepreneurs.
In June, Kiev imposed sanctions on dozens of individuals and businessmen associated with the Russian defense sector.
In February, Ukraine blocked three pro-Russian television channels, as the president’s office explained in an attempt to curb Kremlin propaganda.
In February 2014, Russia occupied the Ukrainian Crimean peninsula. Since April 2014, Moscow-backed and armed militants, saboteurs and soldiers of Russian regular units have occupied large areas in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions of eastern Ukraine.
