Kiev –
Security service Ukraine (SBU) said it had identified a commander Russia who ordered troops to fire on civilians in the first days of the invasion. They accused the commander of Lieutenant Colonel Yevgeniy Zelenov.
As reported by CNN on Sunday (12/11/2022), the Security Service of Ukraine said that Lieutenant Colonel Yevgeniy Zelenov, deputy commander in the Western Military District, ordered troops to shoot at civilian cars at the entrance to Kharkiv on first day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
The Ukrainian side said in a statement that on that day Zelenov commanded a tactical group of the Russian battalion and “was conducting active hostilities with units of the Defense Forces in the eastern direction.”
“According to the investigation, the occupation group approached the Kharkiv Ring Road from the side of the village of Lyptsi and blocked the entrance to the regional center,” the Security Service of Ukraine said.
“At the same time, local residents traveling from settlements bordering the region are calling for the opening of traffic and the fight against the occupiers,” he added.
The Security Service of Ukraine says Zelenov ordered his subordinates to open fire on civilian cars. As a result of the order, one person died and two people were seriously injured.
“As a result of this crime, one person died, at least two people were seriously injured,” the security service said.
CNN has attempted to reach the Russian Defense Ministry for comment on the allegations. However, Russia has consistently denied targeting civilians in what it calls “special military operations” in Ukraine.
