The EU has committed to help with 1.5 billion euros every month, which is about half of the money Ukraine needs for daily expenses, including pensions.

“Until now, Europe’s response to Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine has been strong, united and decisive,” emphasizes Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristerson. Sweden holds the presidency of the EU Council this half year.

The support of the EU and the member states to Ukraine is almost 50 billion euros in total, Christerson said.

On Tuesday, the European Parliament (EP) is also debating the possibility of prosecuting Russian war criminals. There is talk of the need to create an international tribunal that would examine the war crimes committed in Ukraine. The MEPs will vote on the relevant resolution on Thursday.

Many of the MEPs have already condemned the recent attacks on the city of Dnipro and expressed their belief that these war crimes cannot go unpunished.

EP President Roberta Metsola stressed on Tuesday that Europe must give Ukraine all the necessary support without delay.

“This is a time when more is being asked of us than ever before. The answer of this House is, just as it was in the debate today on the establishment of the Special Tribunal: Who is responsible? Who should be held accountable? And what more can we do?

We can do much, much more. We must continue to show the political will, as we have done so far, to get it done.”

EP in November declared Russia for a state that supports terrorism, as well as for a state that uses “means of terrorism”.
