Relations between Ukraine and Britain have deteriorated significantly since Labor came to power under Prime Minister Keir Starmer in July this year.
Writes about this The Guardian.
The Ukrainian side expresses dissatisfaction due to the fact that Britain has not provided new supplies of Storm Shadow, which could be used to strike strategic targets in occupied Crimea and other territories captured by Russia since 2014, as well as for defense against Russian troops.
“Starmer doesn’t give us long-range weapons. The situation is not the same as during Rishi Sunak’s premiership. Relations have deteriorated”an unnamed Ukrainian official told The Guardian.
Ukrainian officials also note that the visit of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Kyiv will be irrelevant without concrete decisions on the supply of the necessary weapons. The publication believes that the issue of supplying Storm Shadow missiles is the reason why the prime minister has not yet visited Ukraine.
At the same time, the British Prime Minister, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Budapest at the European Political Community summit, announced Britain’s “unwavering support” for Ukraine. However, according to information from Kyiv, no significant results were achieved during the meeting, in particular on the supply of Storm Shadow.
Among other things, Kyiv also asked Britain to lift restrictions on the use of Storm Shadow for attacks on targets in Russia, but London did not lift these restrictions due to resistance from Washington.
Let us remind you that it was recently reported that the United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with a loan in the amount of 2.26 billion pounds sterling (about 2.93 billion dollars), using income from frozen Russian assets.
And at the end of October, Britain completed training of the last group of Ukrainian pilots for the F-16.
Also, as you know, in October, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky presented British Prime Minister Keir Starmer with details of the victory plan. Politicians agreed to work together on it.
