Ukraine: Fierce fighting rages over the eastern city of Bakhmut, Russia

The Russian army is fighting to take control of the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, but our forces are inflicting heavy casualties on them. This was stated by Serhiy Chervatko, spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported Dpa, quoted by BTA.

According to him, at least 50 Russian soldiers were killed in the fierce fighting. The number of wounded Russian soldiers is 80. However, this data cannot be verified by independent sources. Bakhmut is perceived as a sticking point on the eastern Ukrainian front. A breakthrough by Russian forces would allow them to penetrate deep behind Ukrainian lines.

At the same time, the head of the Luhansk region administration, Sergiy Haidai, said that alongside the regular Russian forces, “Wagner” mercenaries and Chechen fighters sent by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov failed in Bakhmut’s attack. “They wanted to show the grandfather of the bunker (Vladimir Putin) what they can do, but so far they are only losing thousands of soldiers who are going to stay there forever,” Haiday said.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military said at least 70 Russian officers were injured in an attack on a Russian command post in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine. The attack was carried out by Ukrainian forces during a military meeting in the village of Zabarine. It is unclear how many people were killed there.

Ukrainian fighters have repeatedly attacked Russian command centers and posts since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, tracking radio traffic or the mobile phone network.
