In Ukraine, drone models have been developed that can fly more than 1000 kilometers, told in an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt, the country’s Minister of Digital Transformation Mikhail Fedorov.
According to Fedorov, in 2024 Ukraine will increase its production of long-range drones tenfold compared to last year. Most drones have a range of 700 to 1,000 kilometers, but there are models with a range of more than 1,000 kilometers.
Fedorov did not give specific names. When asked about attacks on Russian oil refineries, he replied that “the military can better comment on the details of these operations.”
Since the beginning of 2024, drone attacks on oil refineries have become more frequent in Russia, as a result of which primary oil refining units have been removed from some of them. Kommersant sources noted that in January 2024, Russian oil companies reduced primary oil refining by almost 4% year-on-year and cited drone attacks as one of the reasons for this.
In early March, the head of the State Duma Defense Committee, Andrei Kartapolov, said that Russian companies need to independently purchase air defense systems to protect against Ukrainian drones. March 19, Director of the Gas Industry Development Department of the Ministry of Energy Artem Verkhov reportedthat the department, together with the Russian National Guard, is working on measures to cover oil refineries from attacks by Pantsir-type systems.
