Ukraine demands a complete embargo on the trade in Russian oil and gas in the world, said on Tuesday, March 1, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.
“The first decisions in this direction have already been made by Canada, and this wave will continue to grow,” he said.
The minister also said that soon Russian banks should be disconnected from the SWIFT system.
“We demand increased pressure and isolation until Putin stops his war against Ukraine, stops the fighting, withdraws his troops, pays for what he has done. Until he does this, we will continue to work we are trying to get the ground burning under Russia’s feet all over the world.Now we are squeezing the maximum amount of application of SWIFT shutdown.I have already informed that the fundamental decision has been made, there are some details left, we are currently working on them.The disconnection of Russian banks from SWIFT should take place in the near future,” Kuleba said.
It should be noted that today the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, at a meeting of the European Parliament, said that the sanctions imposed against Russia for aggression against Ukraine would not allow the Kremlin to spend on this war the money that it earned for gas supplies to Europe.
“They will not allow Russia to use the money we spent on their gas to finance this war. This is the most important lesson we can learn from these strategic developments. We simply cannot appeal to the rule of law and continue our trade and commercial relations ” Borrell said.
At the same time, he expressed confidence that the Europeans should be even more united against the forces of evil. “We have done a lot – we have surprised the world, we have surprised Putin with our ability to act quickly and we must continue on this path,” Borrell said.
