The match between Ukraine and the Czech Republic will take place on Wednesday, December 6 in Denmark. The meeting starts at 16:30 Kyiv time. The match will be broadcast live on Sport 1 TV channel.

At the planetary forum, taking place in Scandinavia, the second stage of the competition starts, which is also called the main or main round. It’s nice that the Ukrainian national team has become a participant and will continue to fight together with the strongest teams of this championship. During this segment, our team will perform in group IV, which was created thanks to the merger of the three best teams from quartets G and H. The results of personal meetings will also move into this sextet along with the national teams, and each team in it will face three representatives of the parallel group. Thus, the next opponents for the Ukrainians will be handball players from the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Argentina.

From these six, the two best teams each advance to the quarterfinals and, let’s be honest, such a result looks almost unattainable for Vitaly Andronov’s team. However, the blue-yellow team is quite capable of competing with the Czechs and Argentines for fourth place and a final place at the World Championships no lower than sixteenth. And we need to take the first step in this fight today in the match with a representative of the European continent.

The Czech Republic is a typical middle team in women’s handball. The team is selected for most of the planetary and continental forums, but clearly falls short of competing for high places. Thus, at the 2021 World Championship, the Czechs became 19th out of 32 teams, and our closest opponent finished the 2020 European Championship in fifteenth place (out of sixteen teams). The Czech Republic completely missed last year’s continental championship. The best result in history for them was eighth place at two European championships (1994, 2002) and at one world forum (2017).

It is unlikely that the Czechs will be able to show serious results at the current tournament. Despite the fact that it began for the wards of Norwegian coach Bent Dahl with two victories over Congo – 32:22 and Argentina – 31:22, the first serious opponent defeated the athletes from Eastern Europe. The Netherlands team brought unpleasant emotions to the Czech Republic – 20:33.

The leaders of the Czech national team can be called two experienced handball players – left welterweight Marketa Jerabkova from the Danish Ikasta and left wing Veronica Mala from Bietigheim, the strongest team in the Bundesliga for the last two years. It is also necessary to highlight the young Charlotte Cholevova. The twenty-one-year-old handball player is showing very good progress and has every chance of growing into a real star of European handball. And in the Czech national team she is already the most important player, which is confirmed by the matches against Congo and the Netherlands, in which she became the top scorer of her team with eleven and six goals scored, respectively.

The last time the national teams of Ukraine and the Czech Republic played each other in official matches was in the selection for the 2016 European Championship. And then our girls lost twice to the Czechs, first losing on the home floor with a score of 20:24, and then, in a bitter struggle, losing minimally on the road – 30:31.

In previous matches of our team at the current world forum, the balance of power was initially unequal. In the matches with Spain and Brazil, Vitaly Andronov’s team was noticeably inferior in class to their rivals, and in the game against the Kazakhstan national team, on the contrary, they were superior to their competitor. While the game against the Czech Republic promises to be the first where Ukraine will play with an opponent of approximately equal strength. Accordingly, both teams can count on triumph today, not without reason. However, I would like the Ukrainian team to win in the battle of two teams with similar potential.
