“Today I visited the Italian defense company Rheinmetall Italia SpA, which specializes in the production of modern air defense systems. Among its developments is Skynex short-range air defense,” the message says.
It is noted that the country needs such an effective weapon to protect against drones with which Ukraine is attacked by Russia. This will save dozens of lives and critical infrastructure for millions of people.

We are considering the possibility of joint production of components of these systems. I thank the partners for their support,” Shmyhal added.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine also wrote that work is underway to have more such effective air defense systems. They will create a reliable shield around Ukrainian strategic infrastructure facilities.
What is Skynex
This is Rheinmetall’s flagship air defense concept and sets new standards with its unique and open architecture. In particular, thanks to the modularity, only those systems that are relevant to a specific task can be connected to the control unit.
Skynex systems are capable of destroying swarms of drones, as well as aircraft and cruise missiles. The wheel version was introduced last year. The example shown was equipped with a 35 mm Oerlikon Mk3 cannon and successfully destroyed a swarm of small drones.
