Ukraine claims that Russia has suffered heavy losses since the start of its counteroffensive, DPA reported.
“Despite false Russian reports to the contrary, the Ukrainian army suffered far fewer casualties in its offensive than the occupiers”wrote in “Telegram” the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Malyar.
According to her, Russian losses are nearly nine times greater than Ukrainian losses in the eastern city of Bakhmut, and in southern Ukraine the ratio is over five to one.
In recent days, the Russian Ministry of Defense has repeatedly announced that its forces have stopped the Ukrainian counter-offensive and caused numerous casualties on the other side.
Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to “catastrophic losses” of the Ukrainian army.
Hanna Malyar dismissed these claims as a disinformation campaign aimed at demoralizing Ukrainian soldiers and society.
The statements of both sides in the conflict have not been independently verified.
Media reports that the Ukrainian army has made little progress in its counteroffensive, which began at the beginning of this month, DPA noted.
Vzrivovo to Kryvyi Rih and Kharkiv
Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities reported explosions that night in Kryvyi Rih and Odessa.
These two Ukrainian cities have been the target of deadly Russian shelling in recent days.
“Krivoy Rog. Explosions,” the chairman of the city council Oleksandr Vilkul wrote in “Telegram”.
Russian missiles hit two industrial sites in the city of Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine in the early hours of today, the city’s mayor Oleksandr Vilkul said, quoted by Reuters.
Three rockets hit two industrial enterprises “that have nothing to do with the military”. A 38-year-old man was injured. Debris from the missiles shot down by the air defense system damaged one car, Vilkul said. “The damage is significant,” he wrote in Telegram.
The death toll in the Russian missile attack on the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday meanwhile reached 12, after one of the wounded died in hospital yesterday, DPA noted.
Explosions rang out that night and in Odesa to the southwest.
The air defense system has been activated, said the spokesman of the regional military administration, Sergii Bratchuk, as quoted by the Ukrinform agency.
“Odessa. Air defense works! Beat them, brothers!” Bratchuk wrote in Telegram.
Authorities in the southern port city of Odessa said air defenses had shot down all 18 drones detected in the area.
On Wednesday, the Ukrainian army reported three civilians killed in a Russian missile attack on Odessa.
At the same time, the administration in the Russian-controlled peninsula Crimea reported a Ukrainian drone attack.
According to the head of the administration, Sergey Aksyonov, during the past night and this morning, six drones were shot down and three silenced. One exploded in the village of Dokuchaevo, 40 km from the city of Simferopol. There were no victims, but some damage was done, Aksyonov specified, quoted by TASS.
That night there were explosions and in Kharkiv to the northeast.
That night, an air alert was declared in 12 of the 24 Ukrainian regions, according to a report by TASS. The sirens wail for about an hour and a half, and in some regions – two hours. The air alert remained in effect for the longest time in the southwestern Odesa region, where five series of explosions rang out that night. Early Thursday morning, the air alert was lifted across Ukraine.
At the beginning of this month, Ukraine launched its long-awaited counter-offensive to retake territories occupied by Russia. Kiev claims its offensive has been successful, a charge Moscow denies. Against this backdrop, Russia continues to carry out daily missile and drone attacks.
On Wednesday, three civilians were killed in Russian missile strikes on Kramatorsk and Konstantinovka in the Donetsk region, the head of the military administration in the eastern Ukrainian region, Pavlo Kirilenko, said, quoted by DPA.
