As the situation in Ukraine continues to escalate, donations have increased rapidly in recent days, including with cryptocurrencies† Yesterday was gone Crypto Insiders to read about a so-calledairdrop‘ which Ukraine announced for crypto backers.

The announcement caused the number of donations with crypto as bitcoin (BTC), ethereum (ETH) and polkadot (DOT) rose rapidly. According to data from blockchain analytics company SlowMist About $53.5 million in crypto has already been donated to Ukraine.

Ukraine cancels crypto airdrop

However, Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation, just announced on Twitter that the airdrop has been cancelled:

“After careful consideration, we have decided to cancel the airdrop. Every day there are more and more people who want to help Ukraine to reduce the aggression. Instead, we will soon be announcing NFTs to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces. We have NO plans to issue replaceable tokens.”

Fake cryptocurrency takes advantage of situation

The announcement is not a big surprise. What this airdrop would entail, and which tokens would be involved, was all still very unclear. Earlier today, news came out about a token called World Peace Coin (WORLD).

It quickly became clear that this was a fake token that scammers pretended to be related to Ukraine’s airdrop. Multiple publications even reported on it and it may have led to the announcement of the cancellation.

Earlier today Crypto Insiders reported about Justin Sun, CEO van TRON† He again made a fool of himself when he complained that his donations were not getting attention and would not receive an airdrop. He has since deleted his tweet.

Ukraine to hand out NFTs

Meanwhile, others complain that Ukraine has a so-called “rug pull” with this, although most call it with a wink. Ukraine therefore chooses to non-fungible tokens (NFT) to be given out to donors. However, further information on this is still unknown.
