Ukraine has been bombarded with non-Russian missiles, the governor of Kharkiv said on Friday. According to the United States, Russia is currently using North Korean-made missiles, writes BBC News.
Governor Oleh Syniehubov said on Ukrainian television on Friday that the non-Russian missiles were being investigated. “I can already say that the markings of the missiles have been erased,” he said. “But what we can see is that the country that produced them is not Russia.”
BBC News reported earlier in the day that North Korea may supply ballistic missiles to Russia. John Kirby, the US national security adviser, called it a “significant and disturbing escalation” in the conflict.
According to Kirby, Washington will raise the issue in the UN Security Council. The US will also impose additional sanctions on parties that participate in the arms trade.
Russia has denied cooperation with North Korea, but ties between the two countries remain good. In September, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited Russia to discuss military cooperation with its northern neighbors.
After the White House accused North Korea of missile shipments, Kim announced he would scale up production of missile launch vehicles.
