President Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky welcome step European Union which officially accepted Ukraine as a candidate member. Zelensky called the moment a victory and promised not to stop until Russia Ukraine lost and full EU membership was won.
As reported ReutersOn Friday (06/24/2022), European Union leaders, on Thursday (23/6) local time, officially accepted Ukraine as a candidate member of the 27-member bloc. The bold geopolitical move was hailed by Ukraine and the European Union itself as a historic moment.
“This is a win,” Zelensky said with a smile in a short video statement posted to his official Instagram account. He also stressed that Ukraine has been waiting for this moment for 30 years.
“We can defeat the enemy, rebuild Ukraine, join the European Union, and then we can rest,” he said.
“Or maybe we won’t rest at all — our kids will be upset. But without a doubt, we’ll win,” added Zelensky.
It is known that this EU decision was taken when Russia continues to invade Ukraine, which reportedly led to the destruction and many casualties. There has been no official response from the Kremlin or Russia’s presidential office regarding the EU move.
Separately, Ukraine’s presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak, said Kiev would soon implement the necessary plans to start accession talks. “Ukraine will be in the European Union,” he said.
