Ukraine beat Sweden with goal in last minute of overtime

Ukraine got the better of Sweden with a last-minute saver in overtime and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Eurocup. This afternoon, the Ukrainians won 2-1, in Glasgow, Scotland, and are still alive in the continental competition. The opponent in the next phase will be England, who eliminated Germany on Tuesday.

Zinchenko was the main name of the game. He scored the Ukrainians’ first goal and provided decisive assistance for Dovbyk to secure victory in overtime. Fosberg scored for Sweden — he even sent two balls into the crossbar in normal time.

The match between Ukraine and England is scheduled for next Saturday (3), at 4 pm (GMT), at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.

There were two beautiful goals in normal time at Hampden Park. Ukraine took the lead in the 26th minute of the first half when Zinchenko received an inverted ball inside the area and, at first, hit the cross to open the scoring.

The Swedish draw came just before the break, with Forsberg. The Sweden shirt 10 received a pass from Isak in the intermediate, fixed it and sent it to goal. The ball deflected midway and took away any chance from goalkeeper Bushchan.

three balls on the crossbar

It was not for lack of attempt that the goal did not come in the second regulation time. There were three balls on the crossbar that almost avoided overtime.

The first of them came after just nine minutes, when Ukrainian Sydorchuk kicked hard from the edge of the area and saw the ball explode into Olsen’s left post. A minute later, it was Sweden’s turn to scare with Fosberg, who received a pass after Isak’s sprint and ended up on the crossbar.

And as if one wasn’t enough, Fosberg stopped at the beam twice. At 23, he received it on the left, cleared two markers and sent a beautiful submission that stopped at the crossbar.

In overtime, Sweden were in a difficult situation after Danielsson was sent off in the nineth minute. Initially, he had been warned with a yellow card for hitting Besedin in a fierce dispute, but, after consulting the VAR, Italian Daniele Orsato opted for expulsion.

Goal not last minute

The match already looked to be heading for penalties when Dovbyk, in the last minute of extra time, put Ukraine ahead. The saving goal came after the striker took advantage of Zinchenko’s cross from the left and headed firmly into the net.
