First the Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, then the Minister for European Affairs Karoline Edtstadler showed caution regarding Ukraine’s rapid accession to the European Union.
Edtstadler denounced “different standards when talking about Ukraine and Moldova and when talking about Bosnia”, and stated that “if we start negotiations” for the former, “then we must also do so for Bosnia-Herzegovina”.
Speaking before the Fpoe deputies, Chancellor Nehammer was clear in stating his opposition to preferential treatment compared to “Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is also involved in accession negotiations”.
Hungary also spoke out against Ukraine’s easier accession to the EU.
