The area is in a state of emergency and settlements, near the border, are being evacuated. The attack caused damage to buildings and injured a number of civilians.
“Our village of Zhuravlevka was shelled from the Ukrainian side. There was damage to houses and community buildings,” Gladkov said on Telegram.

Gladkov initially said he had “no information about injuries or deaths,” but later revealed that there were injured among the residents.

Zhuravlevka is near the common border of the two countries. Two other border villages, Spodaryushino and Bezymeno, were also hit by artillery fire on Thursday morning.

Residents were evacuated and no injuries were reported.
