Details: Trudeau said that, like the United States, Canada has provided “significant military support” to Ukraine, in particular, artillery, ammunition, armored vehicles and tanks. He added that the Canadian Forces have been training the Ukrainian military since 2015.
“As you well know, Mr. President, Canada will continue to stand by Ukraine, no matter the cost,” Trudeau said. “Together we are both partners that Ukraine – and the world – can count on.”
The prime minister pointed to sanctions and other economic measures imposed by the US, Canada and other allies “to keep draining the Kremlin’s military treasury.”
Trudeau called Biden “a true friend of Canada,” saying the alliance “makes more sense than ever at this crucial moment.”
At the same time, Biden said that Russian President Vladimir Putin did not achieve his goals by invading Ukraine.
“You know what? His quest for land and power has failed so far,” the American leader said of Putin. “The love of the Ukrainian people for their country will win.”
Biden repeated Trudeau’s words that the US and Canada support Ukraine.
“Let’s reaffirm that we will keep the torch of freedom burning bright and stand by the Ukrainian people,” Biden said.
The President also said that Moscow failed to shake the resolve of the NATO alliance.
The US and Canada “will keep our alliance strong and united, and we will defend every inch of NATO territory. An attack on one is an attack on all,” he said.
